While it looks a bit like an Ishihara Color Test, it is actually the Willis reproduction control panel overlay for Frogger.  This one uses just three colors, green, black, and grey to execute an interesting design with screen printing.  While the original overlay used 2D frogs to identify direction, the Willis artist attempted to add more character with a little perspective and more realistic frogs.  The “Frogger” text is missing from the left, and the tire mark is replaced with a repeating frog pattern.  The Willis men are present at player 1 and 2, and the manufacturing info, while challenging to read, says “© WILLIS INDUSTRIES. INC. 1982”. With a part number below that I believe says PN 16-3570.  The part number likely means it was available in the WICO catalog, at least until the lawsuit happened.  Overall a simple but well executed replacement overlay, printed with quality materials and 3M backing.  I like it.  If you want to compare to the original cpo, take a look at the cabinet photos below.

From the original Tokens Only post…

OK, simple frog pattern on the right to mimic the original tire tracks, pointing frogs around the joystick to indicate jump direction, got it. But what’s going on with that background? Is that supposed to be pavement or some kind of Rorschach test? I keep staring at it with my eyes a little squinted, hoping the secret message or shape might appear before my eyes.

It does bear the Willis name and even a part no, so there is no doubt that this version is the actual Willis Frogger reproduction overlay. It will hop on over to the archive. Enjoy!

I don’t see the Willis Frogger very often, but if you are trying to collect Willis artwork, you should be able to find this for a reasonable price. Still a great piece of arcade history and if you happen to have one installed on your game I would appreciate a few pictures to share! Thanks to Robert’s Arcade Games for the Frogger game pictures.
